Taxation has been practised in Nepal since antiquity. Nonetheless, the current tax system gained speed with the creation of democracy, and the first unified budget was implemented in 1951. Until the late 1950s, the two main sources of revenue were land tax and international trade tariffs. The Inland Revenue Department has played a major role in mobilizing tax money through internal revenue sources. This department accounts for around half of the total money received by the Nepalese government. A total of 84 operational level offices (1 Large taxpayer's office, 1 Medium taxpayer's office, 43 Inland Revenue offices, and 39 Taxpayer service offices) and an organization structure of around 1700 people have been approved under this department. Dhangadi is a sub-metropolitan city and the district headquarters of Kailali District in Sudurpashchim Province of Nepal. It shares a border with Uttar Pradesh, India in the south, Godawari and Gauriganga Municipality in the North. The revenue offices' goal was to collect Rs.45,01,054 in taxes, but they were able to collect more, namely Rs.55,62,817. The progress rate was 123.59 percent, with a total revenue collecting progress percentage of 1.3 percent.

Kathmandu has a total of 19 inland revenue offices. The biggest revenue collection was achieved by the Inland Revenue Offices of Balaju and Battisputali. The revenue offices' goal was to collect a total of Rs. 9,85,57,615 tax, but they were able to collect more, i.e. Rs. 11,87,40,945. The progress rate was 120.47871 percent, while the progress percentage for total revenue collection is 27.66.
