According to the Department of Customs (DoC), sanitizer imports totaled Rs 264.82 million during mid-July and mid-September. The drop in imports of hand antiseptics was caused by increased manufacturing of the chemical by domestic producers, as well as a decrease in the frequency of COVID-19 infections in recent months. According to government records, Nepal imported sanitizer worth more than Rs 700 million in the previous fiscal year. The most sanitizer was imported from India (worth more than Rs 400 million), with China and the United Arab Emirates coming in second and third place, respectively, in terms of the quantity of sanitizer imported to Nepal.
